Art and Life Lessons with Herschel Gordon Lewis

I'm going back and cleaning house on old posts and things and I came across the Herschel Gordon Lewis interview I did in 2015 just before his death. I decided to give it a listen and was pleasantly surprised as I only heard it previously when I cut it. I usually don't listen to my own stuff too much.
The 2015 interview I did with Herschell Gordon Lewis & James Saito of Diabolique Films is not your typical interview for horror fans.
In fact, I set out to give a completely different and proper type of interview to the legend Herschell Gordon Lewis. He recently passed away and he stated that this interview was his favorite that he has done. He was very fond of the way it was approached and the freedom given in the interview.

Needless to say this makes me very proud and there was a time when I was growing up that I idolized H.G.L., Tom Savini and others. So for me this is the ultimate compliment.
For those of you who do not know who he is, Herschell Gordon Lewis is the Godfather Of Gore. The creator of the splatter genre.
Without H.G.L. gore films would not be what they are today & when he pioneered this genre in the early 1960's it was quite a brave move on his part.
You can imagine the flack he received from religious rights organizations and people opposed to these new types of films.

He stood firm and became the horror legend that he is today & he even owes a lot of that success to these religious lunatics. As he points out "The more attention you give something, the more popular it becomes."
In our interview we discuss many points & yes I am a fan of H.G.L. but I steer the interview in such a way that we can all gain some wisdom from him & from James Saito the producer of Diabolique Films.

If you would like to hear the interview in its entirety it can be found via Mr Dark's Audio Nasty Presents Escape From New York and Episode 1: Werewolf Tales.
The Interview is contained within these shows & is available on demand via Mixcloud.
